Here are some of our most frequent asked questions.
Hair and Makeup
As you’re planning your wedding day schedule, make sure to ask your hair and makeup artist/artists for the estimated time of how long this process will take? Then add another 30 minutes as a buffer. This will also help if you are running late. Adding extra time to your wedding day schedule will help the whole day run smoother.
Wedding photography is not always allowed in churches and there may be restrictions. We are happy and can work with any restrictions, but it’s important for you to understand the restrictions and for you to have realistic expectations.
2-3 hours before sunset is the best time for an outdoor ceremony. Having ceremonies at sunset sounds like a great idea but the wedding day schedule could run late and your wedding might be in the dark. This time ensures that the sunlight falls more evenly on your skin and does not cause harsh shadows. Both the bride and groom are light nicely and one person should note in the light, and the other in shadow. The best way is to have the sun in front of or behind the couple.
If you can, always have your photographers ride with you. In the car, if you have multiple locations, on the way to the ceremony and in the limo on the way to your reception. You will get some of your most intimate moments captured this way, and also some of the wildest. If it is planned right there is even time to stop off at a cool location your photographer sees on the way....spontaneous locations make for some of the most stunning images.
The most important part of your time-line and wedding day is taking the proper amount of time to make creative portraits; these are the images you are going to have for a lifetime. Make sure to carve out 30+ minutes. If we had it our way, every couple would have a first look at we would have a full hour with just the couple. We are there to guide you through everything, but please remember it's important to remain patient, tenacity, and occasionally they require an adventurous moment or two.
Our recommendations to every couple is to do immediate family ONLY right after the ceremony: parents, siblings, grandparents, wedding party. The reception gives us more time to do larger groups. This helps us to stay on track and get to the creative session much faster. The best time for larger groups is right after the cake cutting. Your DJ or band can make an announcement.
This accomplishes three important things for you and for us. 1) Send us an invitation like everyone else; this gives us time to photograph it for you in advance instead of getting a quick shot on the wedding day. 2) If your photographers are on the guest list, they will be seated with the guests, which ensures they are always with you and will never miss a moment of your reception. 3) This also ensures we are fed in a timely manner (instead of a cold sandwich in a back-office far away from you when speeches are happening). Food is energy, and energetic, happy photographers are exactly what you want when you have four hours of dancing ahead of you
The more lighting you can bring in, the better! We love uplighting (orange, red, purple, and pink look the best; stay away from green); candles, chandeliers, and twinkle lights.
If you’re having a completely open-air reception, under the stars, we recommend adding as much extra lighting as possible, such as strands of twinkle lights and candles in hurricane vases. The extra lighting will help warm up your photos and add a prettier, more dynamic dimension. Otherwise, you will have a completely black background unless the reception takes place during the day.
Allow your wedding day to simply be what it is. Whether that means inclement weather, forgetting that bracelet you wanted to wear, or events running way off schedule. Keeping an open mind will allow spontaneity and magic to surprise and delight you, and make your wedding uniquely yours
